Prehistoric Goodness

In our most recent project in Drawing for Animation, we were supposed to draw a prehistoric animal in the style of Charley Harper, with photoshop as an optional tool. Since his style is rather minimalistic, I opted for photoshop. It's rather hard to achieve what he does in acrylic in color with nothing but a pencil. Nevertheless, it was a really fun and challenging piece to work on.
So, here's a smilidon...
And a smile-don! (I couldn't resist)

Shape Structure

Working on simplification and streamlining now. It's a lot harder than it looks, too! Especially when you're trying to make a readable, appealing shape while still retaining the essence of what you're drawing.
In the meantime, I'm still working on tablet drawing, figures, characters, story, school, church, life, etc... Do enjoy!

Done in Col-Erase pencil, staedtler, prisma, and photoshop. The last one's kinda Riku from "Kingdom Hearts," but it's hard to tell.

Viking Parasite

*said in thick Scottish accent* He vill eat ye face off... and be drinkin' like a Viking-man.
*thick Scottish accent off* OK, the latest project in Drawing for Animation was to design a vinyl toy using simple shapes and silhouettes.

And it had to be a Viking Parasite.

I love this class.

Done with Staedtler and prisma

Line WORK

This week's project in Drawing for Animation is... textures! We've been talking about linework in terms of variation, thickness, shadow, etc, which is something I've been needing to work on for quite sometime now. We had to draw nine different types of textures - in ink - to get a feel for linework. As a result, I've been doing quite a lot of line WORK in my drawings lately, mainly in variation, simplicity, and creating silhouettes. It's a lot harder than I thought, but improvement is making it's sure and steady course!
Done in Staedtler pen.
Figure drawing from Animation club. Faber-Castel pen.
The model in gesture drawing struck this pose, so I just played with style and line. Col-Erase and Staedtler.

Photoshop-ness

Pah. Just uploading the last of 2010. And I colored this on the 31st of December. So it's still considered 2010. The sketch is ballpoint pen from Disney World.

Back to School

So now I'm back from sunny Florida and in snowy Utah! Which means that the Winter semester has begun, as well as my first semester in the BYU Animation Department! I'm currently taking Drawing for Animation and our first drawing prompt was "Rodent Herdsman of the Burning Desert." Pretty awesome. The first sketch is the "fail" sketch, just pretty much conceptualizing and coming up with ideas. The bottom is the completed work done in Staedtler pen and Prisma tone markers. My scanner's been acting up and so the drawings don't look anything like they do in real life... but enjoy anyways!
